RELAY FOR LIFE

March 12 & 13, 2005—Mark it on your calendar
Join our NPCUCC Team!!

Sponsored by our Amistad Committee North Port Community UCC will participate for the first time in North Port’s Relay for Life. The Relay for Life is a community gathering that represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated. It will be held at North Port High School.

We are looking to put together at least one ten-person team to represent our church—two would be better!

The relay begins at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12th, with cancer survivors being honored and walking the beginning victory lap. Your strength and courage help the community see that cancer survivorship is real—that we are making progress in the battle against cancer. There’s also be a caregiver’s lap.

The Relay continues on through the night and concludes on Sunday morning. Members of our team may come, walk for a while and then leave, or they may come and stay all or part of the night. The only requirement is that at least one member of our team be walking at all times throughout the relay. Cancer doesn’t take a break, so our team doesn’t either!

When the sun goes down, luminaries will light the way under the stars to remember those lost to cancer, those fighting cancer and those who have fought and won. This ceremony of light symbolizes the hope and perseverance with which we all continue to fight.

There will be many ways in which you as a congregation can participate. Watch for the bulletin insert coming soon. Be a walker, sponsor a walker, place some luminaries, come out and be a cheerleader giving our teams support and encouragement. Any questions, give me a call in the church office 426-5580.
